Full-Frame ‧ Fixed-Lens ‧ Leica Q Compact Camera

Leica is the leading role in mechanical rangefinder photography which other camera brands are not able to surpass. When entered into the digital age, all camera brands work hard on innovative digital technology. Leica’s digital cameras, however, have disadvantage in the fast operation and convenience when compared with other famous Japanese brands. It is perhaps a trade-off in return for maintaining the best image quality that Leica values the most from the beginning.

Nevertheless, Leica will never give up striving for the best and the effort ended up releasing Leica Q this year, a Leica’s first fixed-lens full frame compact camera which integrates the best image quality, the extremely fast operation and the greatest convenience that Leica’s digital cameras ever had, catching up with the Japanese brands.

Leica Q inherits appearance from Leica M series rangefinder system, while the digital technology inside includes many new elements that the previous models lack of or the best ever seen on Leica digital. They include extremely fast autofocus, high resolution electronic viewfinder, super high ISO, super quick continuous shooting, touch-sensitive LCD screen and Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity with dedicated Leica app. All these features make it an excellent camera for street, architectural and landscape photography.

Leica Q consists of a full-frame 24-megapixel CMOS sensor with a fixed non-interchangeable Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH lens. It is able to switch to mechanical manual focus to experience enjoyment like shooting with mechanical rangefinder.

The lens contributes to excellent image performance with extreme sharpness and rich layers. When shoot with the large aperture, the main subject inside the shallow depth of field stands out three-dimensionally. The image colours are natural like what the eyes see. Moreover, the combination of the largest aperture f/1.7 and the highest ISO reaching 50000 allows smooth going and high quality shooting at low light environment.

While Leica considers the favors of different photographers, a special digital cropping function allows image to be adjusted to 35mm or 50mm focal lengths like zooming in, not limited by the wide 28mm fixed lens.
